MGS is founded by Maryann Gou (LMusA, LTCL, LLB, PLT, MMus, PSC, MMTA, SCSL, MEd ‘27, ATMusA ‘27). She is an accomplished educator and classical pianist located on the Upper North Shore, Sydney, and specialises in both English literature and piano. She has been teaching privately and at institutions in Australia, the United States, and China since 2018. As a recipient of the 2025 SFCM Pedagogy Award, she is an expert in understanding and working with keen minds.
Maryann’s students have achieved Band 6, state ranks, and top rankings in both selective and independent private schools, and her piano students have achieved top prizes in Eisteddfods, scholarships, international prizes, AMEB success, and more.

Maryann Gou (MGS Founder)

Maryann is a Meriden alumna and received top marks in English Advanced (96) and English Extensions 1 (49/50) & 2 (suite of poetry), as well as Music 2 and Music Extension (Encore nomination). She has been helping students achieve their goals since 2018, with outstanding results (Band 6 and state ranks). Having taught students from almost 20 schools across NSW and QLD, as well as internationally, she holds vast knowledge of HSC requirements, music performance and stage etiquette, English Literature, and essay/creative/discursive/reflection writing technique.
In 2022, Maryann was admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of NSW and holds her solicitor’s practising licence NSW. She is also an Australian legal practitioner registered with the Department of Home Affairs. In 2025, she completed her Master in Music (piano performance) and PSC at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying with Garrick Ohlsson. In 2026, she completed studies at Peking University, learning Chinese as a second language and international relations. She was a Peking University field journalist at the 2025 Beijing Forum, China Ministry of Education, and published multiple articles. She is a recipient of many scholarships and grants, a laureate of international competitions, prizewinner, and has performed internationally both as a soloist and chamber musician.
Maryann has performed in masterclass with various artists including Yuja Wang, Emanuel Ax, Sir Stephen Hough, Boris Slutsky, Alexander Kobrin, Andrey Gugnin, Miró Quartet, and Salastina Duo. As a chamber musician, she was coached by Yoshikazu Nagai, and members of both Telegraph Quartet and Esmé Quartet.
Maryann is an accredited member of the Music Teachers’ Association NSW and also a member of the Law Society NSW. She is currently completing her second Master degree as a PhD pathway, specialising in Gifted Education, and her ATMusA.

Macy Gou

Macy is a James Ruse alumna, class of 2023. She was a HSC All-Rounder and state ranked for English Extension 1 (50/50). Her excellent achievement in all subjects (English Advanced, English Extension 1, Maths Extensions 1 & 2, Latin Continuers, Latin Extension, PDHPE accelerated, Agriculture accelerated) resulted in her scoring an ATAR in the top 0.6% of NSW. Currently, she is studying a Bachelor of Medical Science / Doctor of Medicine at the University of Newcastle.
Macy has been teaching since 2023, specialising in HSC English Advanced and English Extension 1 tutoring for groups and one-on-one. She is passionate about helping students excel in their English studies and HSC needs. Her approach to teaching is supportive, engaging, and designed to make learning enjoyable while building the skills students need to succeed. With lessons tailored to the students’ needs, she focuses on their unique strengths and areas for improvement, offering genuine study tips to ensure they’re fully prepared and achieve their best results. She speaks from personal exam experience and aims to nurture a safe classroom environment that welcomes discussion and questions, as she believes that is the best way to learn.
Macy also offers UCAT help and medicine interview mentorship. She achieved a mark of 3330 on the UCAT, and organises personalised and intensive UCAT workshops for aspiring Med students!
Bella Wong

Bella graduated in 2025 and is a Meriden alumna currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Law (Dalyell Scholar) at the University of Sydney. She achieved stellar marks in her HSC subjects and scored an ATAR in the top 1.05% of NSW. She specialises in private online or in-person tutoring in Junior Science, Biology, Chemistry, Maths Advanced, English Advanced and Extension 1, and Food Technology.
Bella uses her strong leadership and communication skills to offer high-impact tutoring for students by focusing on deep and conceptual understanding. She helps students strengthen their academic foundations, refine exam technique, and steadily improve their results. Her approach builds confidence, sharpens critical thinking, and develops effective study habits for consistent progress and long-term results.
With vast experience teaching students of varying skill and year levels (yr 4-12), Bella’s students have seen improved rankings by 30+ and elevated marks by more than 20%.
Sophie Tan

Sophie is a Meriden alumna, class of 2025, graduating 1st in her cohort in English Extension 1 (49/50), English Extension 2, Latin Continuers (95/100), and Modern History. She was a recipient of the Roxburgh Prize for Dux of English (2021-2023, 2024×2, 2025×2) and a HSC All-Rounder, achieving an ATAR in the top 0.7% of NSW. Currently, she is studying a Bachelor of Law and Arts at UNSW, with a High Distinction WAM and specialised knowledge in linguistics, politics, and international relations.
As a dedicated academic tutor, Sophie’s love and passion for humanities has the ability to inspire her students, encouraging intrinsic motivation. She offers effective tutoring for English and English Extensions 1 & 2, Latin and Latin Extension, and History and HSC Modern History. Her lessons and feedback are tailored to individual student needs for the best results.
Sophie’s strong work ethic and leadership skills allow her to clearly communicate the best path for success. She truly enjoys being able to share her knowledge and experience with others, and would love to help you reach and surpass your goals!
